Wax all over the carpet

Over the last 6 years we've had a few candle overflows and wax ended up on the carpet. Now the older stains were removed by letting it dry, removing big bits and getting the rest with a hoover (making sure to comb it up before each attempt). In some cases this took a few years to remove all trace of the wax.
We might (I hope!) be moving out in 3 months or so & have a couple of wax marks still left. White wax, red carpet (of course!). Does anyone know the proper way to get wax out of the carpet? I really don't want to hire a carpet shampooer or something and have it not work.
Thanks (and after the wax I have to deal with the red wine stain on the grey 2nd bedroom carpet - they never got invited to stay again)

Still wish I could buy a TARDIS instead of a house!
