Anyone done leaflet distribution

HI was just wondering if anyone had done this before, just seen advertied on the job centre site for 5 weeks 16 hours per week, for £6 per hour.

Has anyone done this before, what are your experiences?

I used to run my own leaflet distribution company. It was only me but I cut out the middle man. Just contacted local businesses. That way I used to charge 1p or so a leaflet but I'd post 3 different companies at the same time. This gave me on a good £10 or so an hour. It was okay in the Summer. Chapped hands in the winter. Good exercise too. Then I found easier ways to make money on the net.............and I got fatter!!;)

I have done leaflet distribution as part of my own little business venture (allbeit briefly) and I personally found it quite soul destroying! Agree that in the summer it's not too bad, but I would have to say that i would NEVER do it again unless it was the very last resort!! Just my opinion though... :D

I am a postie and this is hard graft. I can do 400 homes with average drives of 10-20 foot and all on the flat in 2 hours and your legs/hips/back will hurt. I am 52 and 17 stone so lots to carry. If you are young and light no probs you have speed.

If you have tower blocks and hills it will take longer.

If you have thousands of terraced homes you are laughing as they are quicker.

You will get moned at by peeps (mainly bored oldies) who dont want them. also beware of dogs so take some dog biscuits with you.

    AND

Don't put your fingers in any letterbox EVER cos a dog is quicker than you and it HURTS BAD

Go fo it the freedom is great Good Luck

I've got a leafleting/collecting job and love it..

Not very nice in the good old British rain  Last week it was like a waterfall so my notes I have to write got very wet.

If I remember, gloves because of the letterboxes - often end up with a bleeding hand..

Very hot work. I always wear sandals with padded insoles no matter what the weather.

As pigunderaroof mentions - dogs! If you hear one, or see one in a window - keep clear! They throw themselves at the doors. I do put my hand in and must remember not to.

Letterboxes can fall to pieces :D

Often a prickly maze to get to the door, so watch what you wear.

    Good Luck.

Not that I would ever actually do this, but talking of Victor Meldrews......

One resident put my reminder slip on a doorstep and the back was covered in an essay 'WE ARE NOT GOING TO GIVE OUT OUR PERSONAL DETAILS TO YOU....... etc etc filling the entire large page.

It must have taken them ages to write this. Then I had a wicked thought, what about putting them on every imaginable junk mail list as I had their address..
  • was just wondering for those who have done leaflet distribution work.
looking for extra work on a Saturday as work full time in the week but Xmas is coming close. (well, the TV ads make it look as though its next week!). see lots advertised but always weary.
from experience do they pay weekly/monthly?
and are you classed as self employed so you'd have to sort out your tax/ni and such or do they do that for you?

    thanks guys.

Its often very poorly paid. I know someone who runs a company doing it just starting out and cutting corners over other companies and they pay £3-£4 an hour cash in hand

Its usually cash in hand on the day- Hence the low pay :)
