I was also thinking about getting a stick blender, (though not necessarily a Braun) to use as a smoothie maker. Has anyone tried this and did it work?

Amazon have them for about £15. I bought a Braun 4050 for around £20 which came with a mini chopper and beaker and it is brilliant for soup. I have also used the mini chopper for making houmous.0

Asda do a cheap and cheerful version, about £5.
Good for blending, comes a with a beaker and lid, the electrical bits are removeable for easy washing.
In-store only .Just for one moment, thought I'd found my way.0
