Very Sticky Prune and Date Cake

Hi
I recently had this cake, and was told it was a Delia recipe. Could anyone suggest a substitute for the condensed milk, as my daughter is on a dairy free diet.
I intend substituting the flour for spelt, as she can tolerate this

There is a vegan alternative recipe here using silken tofu and maple syrup http://www.recipes4us.co.uk/Specials%20and%20Holidays/Special%20Diets%20Allergies/vegan_condensed_milk_substitute_.htm0

I doubt very much if taste would be exactly the same, imagine it would have less of a caramel taste...but try it anyone...because I am sure it is stille edible, especially with some icing lol...if it tastes a little strange...easy enough to make that non-dairy...

Ooh sorry I didn't see your reply! It doesn't taste much like condensed milk when you stick your finger in it but its a good substitute when cooking as its basically sugar with milk (of one sort or another). You can also make it with sugar and rice milk I believe, if you google it there will be some recipes.
Silken tofu works well in some choccy cake recipes as an egg replacer so I guess it will be fine for your cake as a baked ingredient. http://www.egglesscooking.com/2008/08/25/eggless-chocolate-cake/0
