I was talking to my mum at the weekend and she has successfully claimed back an old pension she stopped paying to years ago. She said she got the advice from here.
Is it possible to do this? I paid into a Standard Life one about 4 years ago for a year but then started a new one with a different company without transferring.
What happens to the standard life one? Do I have any rights in which to claim it back? thanks x

Once you have started contributing to a registered pension scheme there are very few ocassions when you are able to claim back your contributions.
Contact Standard Life and ask them for more details about what you have got. Try and provide them with as much relevant detail as you have available (a policy number, preferably).
When you find out, come back here and we may be able help you further with more specific options, such as the transferability of what you have built up and the advantages and disadvantages associated with each option.

Is your mum over 60? The over 60s have a way of getting back trivial pensions but thats about it for money purchase schemes.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0
