Make ur own candle with picture for present

Hi All

I have decided to make candle with pictures on them. Im going to get cheap candles and black holders in shops. Then get sticky photo printable paper from ebay. Print out picture on the paper with perhaps a little poem. Then cover candle in sellophine with nice bow at the top.

has anyone else tried this. If soo any tips!!!

Frugalsparkle, not tried this myself but remember that it could be dangerous if the candle is being burnt and has a picture on the outside as this could catch light.

Good luck with it though!

Hi!

Just to repeat Rusty here but normal photo paper would very easily catch light if stuck to a candle.
You have two main options here; either include a message in the gift telling the recipient to remove the paper before lighting. Or I'm sure you can buy special wax like paper which allows you to transfer images onto a candle

Nice idea if you can get it to work though.

Oh no the candle wouldnt be for burning. It would have a nice picture on it like of a babys christening or a couples wedding picture so the person receiving the gift wouldnt want to burn such a memorable gift. Its just for show !!!

frugalsparkle I had such a fantastic tutorial for this saved somewhere but I cant find it.
I know it said to tape a piece of tissue paper to your regular printer paper, then put it through the printer to print out your photo onto the tissue paper. This gives it a stiff backing to go through the printer.
Separate the two pieces, cut out the photo from the tissue paper glue it gently with a couple of spots of glue. Heat the candle gently with a heat tool/gun - I'm assuming this is some sort of crafting tool. When the candle glistens it will be warm enough to adhere the picture, remove the heat straight away. you can use the back of a spoon to push very gently over the surface. If some parts aren't adhered just heat gently in those places again.
This is what I remember. I was going to do this for Christmas but forgot about it.
They say that you can put fabric through printers the same way for quilting so I would have thought tissue paper should go through easy enough.

Oh my life that is SO funny.

All you need to do is print your image onto some tissue paper then use a heatgun or if you don't have one.. i imagine a hairdryer would work as well. I made these last year and wrapped them in cellophane with diamantes on. They looked gorgeous ::T

Knowing me (and I do) I would end up in a power cut grab the nearest candle and light it causing a massive fire to break out and everyone in my block of flats to be evacuated. Still I suppose it wouldn't be dark then!! :rotfl:

Anyway back to the candles I think the tissue paper thing would look really good! But put a little note in with it for the idiots like me hehe.

The tissue paper melts into the wax so it looks like a real printed candle.. it is weird. You can light them.. set fire to them.. whatever you want.. they're perfectly safe

Liking the tissue paper method. But does the candle then look a different colour to the tissue with picture on it. Surely it would be nicer on sticky clear paper?

I already make and sell candles like these, for special occasions like christenings, weddings and memorials. You can buy special acetate paper that you print the photo or text you want on it, immerse it in water, and then all you do is slide it onto the candle and leave to dry. It can be burned if wished, quite safely as the acetate melts into the candle but people tend to buy these for display I think, more than burning. I make the candles to order usually as well, because some people want a special fragrance if it's going to be burned.
I also use the napkin technique where i just tear the picture out of a paper nakpin and glue it to the candle. Tearing means it melds into the candle background better and again, it's safe to burn as the napkin goes into the wax.
