in Cutting tax
this is a dramatic and ridiculus true story of whats happening in my life, i need someone please to answer three questions at the end, but i will give you some colourful info as its amazing even to me...
i was born as a mistake, mum was told she was in the menopause.. lol
from an early age i was left in the care of my brother and sister
they abused me until i was 10 then my sister married and my brother had not encouragement. at 14 my mum was seriously ill and guess what.. i was sent to live with my sister for a year.. great!!!
needless to say relationships have never been great, my dad died and i dindt go tothe funeral... etc, i live 400 miles away... wish it was more.
my mum went to live with my sister.....
my mum paid 20,000 for an extention built n the side of my sisters house
now, my dad had always loved animals, he tamed this feral cat and before he died it was my mums shaddow she loves it to bits
my brother got the house as no will was found!!!
i got ziperdy do dah
no problem
my sister is evil and treats my mum very badly locking the interconnecting door forcing my mum to walk round the front of the house and dropping her off in town , forcing a frail 78yr old woman to catch two busses home etc
but the worst bit for my mum is the lonelyness she wants her cat....
my brother kept the house so also the cat
kept is the right word for he kept it in a freezing kitchen
its in a terrible state my mums friend took her round and my mum wont stop crying, this cat is an important link to my dad.
questions ...... can i suggest to my sister that the cat comes to live with my mum or i shall call the tax office and explain that this extention has been funded by my mother (who will not last 7 yrs)
can i inform the council tax office that there is effectivly a second home on the land?
is ther anything further financially speaking that i can o to force the evil cold hearted b to let my mother have the cat in her own annex..
finances are the only thing she listens too...

My first inclination would be to report these people. Your brother for mistreating the pet to the RSPCA letting them know that there's a home waiting for it with you (if nothing else - and just for starters?)
What your sister is doing to your elderly mother is bordering on abuse, and I'd inform social services if it were me to be honest. If it isn't that bad - have you tried asking her if she'll take the cat? Is there no way mum can come to live with you? How does she feel about all of this?
Remember, if you inform council tax, then you could effectively be making Mum's life worse - I don't think it's a tax dilemma you have, more of a moral one. I'm sorry if you feel I'm interfering, I can't even imagine what you're going through, but here if you need an ear

How has this happened? If there was no will, then everything should have been divided up according to the intestacy rules.0 -
well yes, this was done but ..i was out of any loop, my mother was not given anything as such my brother recieved the house and garages antiques and vintage cars. my sister got somethigs, but i dont know what... i got nothing except a photo... again i stayed out of it... its no problem but i want to get this cat to my mum and to do that i have to have something over my sister... that is BIG enough to make her see reason.1. i'm bi polar.:rotfl:2. carer for two autistic sons.:A 3. have a wonderful but challenging teenage daughter. 4. have a husband that is insatiable. 5. trying to do an open degree.0

i d love to have my mum here but i have 4 beds and 3 kids two of which are autistic, we offered to have her four times and as alwayys.. she says my sister knows best. its complicated, i d love to have the cat but its a long way and my two rescue dogs are not very good with the young cats i have now.. dear old tiger wouldnt like it i dont think. my mother still wants this cat to live in her annex. there must be some legal or financial way of me blackmailing my sister into allowing it..1. i'm bi polar.:rotfl:2. carer for two autistic sons.:A 3. have a wonderful but challenging teenage daughter. 4. have a husband that is insatiable. 5. trying to do an open degree.0

Firstly you aren't out to 'blackmail' anyone - so I'd remove that from your post if you know what I mean.
Persuasion is another matter though!
You can contest the will. I think you should, actually. I know this is about the cat (get to that in a sec) but that house should belong to your mother.
About your sister - I would threaten her with contacting social services regarding her treatment of your mother unless she helps your mum get that
cat back. The fact she locks doors and makes her walk around the perimeter of the house is cruelty alone (if viewed from a certain viewpoint). There might be more they would be interested in?
I don't know what else to suggest. Good luck with it

It sounds as if your mother has not received her entitlement under the intestacy rules.
This is from https://www.lawontheweb.co.uk/basics/wills.htm
"If you have a lawful spouse, plus children:
If your estate is worth less than £125,000 then your spouse gets everything. If your estate is worth more than £125,000 then your spouse would get £125,000 and a life interest (ie the right to take interest on the remainder, but not the capital itself) in half of anything over this sum. Your children would get half the sum over £125,000 immediately and be entitled to the other half on the death of your spouse. Should any of your children die before you then their children would be entitled to take their parent's share."
I think you need to take legal advice to help your mother. If she had what she is entitled to then she could be financially independent and not need to live with your sister.
I would also talk to Age Concern about your mother's situation.0 -
my sister told me, that the solicitor told my mother that as their was no will the property should be divided up... however my brother then said that before my dad died he had promised my brother the house, so my mum went to the solicitor and my brother was "given" the house, my mother had 50k in the bank, my brother had a house worth 350k and garages worth 15k lots of old cars and antiques. my sister gained something but ive been unable to accertain what... i recieved a photo. but this was over two years ago so its all done and dusted huh? i cant re open the thing can i?
as regads social services... my mum wouldnt like to cause a fuss... so she wont say didly exept to me and her friends. i have agin pleaded for this cat , i actually feel quite sick having to crawl to my sister, but to no avail i believe it is now destined to be put to sleep. i had hoped that i could find something to hold over my sister, thansk everyone for your replies... age concern is a good idea but my mum makes excuses for peoples behavior... i wish there was just some justice i could come out with though.1. i'm bi polar.:rotfl:2. carer for two autistic sons.:A 3. have a wonderful but challenging teenage daughter. 4. have a husband that is insatiable. 5. trying to do an open degree.0
