whats the difference between big red one and COD2?

Big Red One is for the consoles (Xbox, PS2) where as COD is for the PC and XBOX360.

Also, Big Red One is more of an 'on-rails' type first person shooter (ie, you follow a predetermined route and kill things), whereas COD is much more open, squad commands/tactics, etc.

I've got both, both are excellent games, prefer Big Red as much simpler and can play in short bursts.
