in Cutting tax
Hi..yet another tax refund question.
Sorry, but i was wondering if mine is right too...i hope someone can help explain it to me (simply if poss, lol)
I've only just had my Sept payslip and although I havnt paid any tax this month I've got a - £39 against the tax so I take it thats the refund part. I reckon I should maybe have paid about £11.80 tax so that means I've only received £50 and not the £60.
My basic gross amount this month was £562.00 although this covers the period from 24th Aug to 23rd Sept so I dont know if this has made a difference with tax refund or not.
So this months reads:
Gross pay 562.50
NI 12.21
Tax - £39.00
Total take home pay £589.29
My payslip reads:
YEAR TO DATE:
Gross for tax TD 3862.50
Tax paid TD 163.40
Earning for NI TD 3856.00
Nat Ins TD 126.50
Then I have a bit that says for 'This period' in another column
Gross for tax 562.50
I am employed to work from home so get a slightly higher tax code. Before Sept it was 548 and now its 608.
many thanks for any help....

based on the info you have provided your tax is correct
goes like this
gross pay 3862
allowance for 6 monmths based on tax code of 608 is
6085 x6(months/12 = 3042
so you are taxed on 3862-3042 = 819 at 20% i.e. £163
if you code was still 548 then your tax would have been 223 i.e. £60 more0 -
Brilliant Clapton..many thanks, I understand it now, it makes sense when its put in simple terms,lol..0
