Compensation - to spend or not to spend?

Hi
Both myself and my hubby are going bankrupt at the end of this month, and last week he received a cheque for £1900 for compensation from a car accident he had about 18 months ago.
We are using £1000 of it for bankruptcy fees, which leaves the £900 -
do you think it would be ok to buy a new hoover out of this - or would this be frowned upon just before bankruptcy - ours has had it and we really could do with one. I would keep the receipt so the OR know where some of the money has been spent, and then the rest is there if he wants it towards what we owe.
Just after you thoughts on this please:rolleyes:

That should be fine. It is an essential household item and he will have no problems with you paying the fee's with it.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0

Hi jmach,
Cant see any reason why you can't get a new Hoover (sorry generic vacuum/vaccuam/vaccuuam cleaner)Sod it hoover
Whilst you are at it 12 months tax ,12 months insurance & MOT,full tank of whatever,a big shop of essentials & whatever else you can spend it on.
Hope all goes well DEZThe triumph of hope over experience

If compensation is for physical/mental damage than the OR couldn't touch it anyway.
if loss of earnings then they can.0 -
I was in a similar situation to you except I sold my car for £1,900.00.
Like you £1000.00 for for 2xBR fees.
The other was used for a cheap run around car & the rest I stocked up on house-keeping as bank accounts were to close & delay setting up a new one so the cash/food stock tied me over.BR 08/05/2008
