Hi,
I need some help trying to buy a water filter!
I was looking in Robert Dyas today and they had an XL brita water filter + 1 maxtra cartridge for £15 in the reduced section. They also had a bog standard kenwood for £15 with 6 free cartridges for £15. I don't really need a massive one so I had a quick look on amazon but am now confused by them all as there are so many!
Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced water filter and cartridges? The maxtra one looks more expensive in the long run but please correct me if I'm wrong!
Thanks! x

hi why do you feel the need to buy a filter jug? the water quality in this country is very high and there is no need for it from that point of view. if you do get one then make sure you change the filters regularly as stipulated or you could end up with quality issues.0

We bought an own brand one from Asda a few weeks ago for £6 or £8 (can't remember exactly). Fits in the fridge door, water tastes Ok and own brand filters work out at £2 a month.
Capacity is supposed to be 2.5 litres but realistically you'll only get 1.5 litres of filtered stuff at a time. We keep a 5 litre bottle in the fridge topped upI-thought-a-thousand-million-things-that-I-could-never-think-this-morning0 -
I have the Brita Elemaris XL and purchased a 9+3 free Maxtra filters from Amazon. The filters work out at £3.33 per month or 77p per week or 11p a day.
If you like your water filtered, then it works out pretty cheap0 -
LAICA (based in Italy) now manufacture filters compatible with Brita Maxtra Jugs - we sell them (i.e. in the UK mail order). Certainly we are finding they are becoming increasingly more popular as a cost effective alternative (and we sell both genuine/compatibles).

(It's not a shameless link mods - I try and stick mainly to advice on threads(see history), but in this case it's a product fairly unique to us I think in the UK, and it is genuinely relative to the thread/moneysaving)0 -
Random as hell, but did any of you have any luck with those filters? I need a really cheap one for holiday!0

Hozelock do a range of water filters depending on the size, but then again they are for ponds!!
Sorry couldn't resist:jI used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -
I've got a brita maxtra & have found it good (and lasts longer than recommended, even with heavy useage & hard London water). I've found Argos have always been cheapest for multipack cartridges (6 or 9) - but I'm interested in walmslei's Italian generic copys if they're cheaper.0
