...but you will have to take the chip off the old cartridge, and that's not an easy job! I looked into these too, but too many stories of broken or lost chips which didnt work in the new cartridge. An extra couple of quid guarantees it working 1st time without having to dismantle the old one!ebay for about £15 for a full set:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Hello jellybabes
I'll move your thread to 'The Consumables' board.

I got 5 unchipped carts for less than a tenner only recently despite also being wary of the horror stories. I replaced 3 cartridges and swapped the chips fairly easily. What you need is double sided tape(usually supplied with the cart) which will secure the chip to the compatible. The only mishap I encountered was some ink in one of the packaging which caught me by surprise but that does not appear to be coming from the cartridge(at least any more)....but you will have to take the chip off the old cartridge, and that's not an easy job! You lose the ink monitoring function but I'll be printing out a test page of all the colours before each printing session to see if any carts look like the need replacing. At the end of the day I think it is a risk worth taking considering how much of a rip off oems are. Even chipped compats are still fairly expensive. If it all goes wrong I can always buy another printer(with ink)for the cost of genuine set of canon cartridges.0 -

http://www.inkredible.co.uk/Default.aspx?View=Offers&OffersView=OffersListView&CategoryID=2425&RefererID=3 has a complete compatible set for £19.99 chipped and with money-back guarantee;
or http://www.amazon.co.uk/CLI8-PGI5-CHIP-Compatible-comnination/dp/B001EP5X1G/ref=pd_ts_ce_7?ie=UTF8&s=electronics#moreAboutThisProduct for £16.99 with two of them chipped. I'm about to buy a set myself but might go for the one with guarantee even though it's a bit dearer. It's a lot cheaper than £50! Free delivery too.His money is twice tainted: taint yours and taint mine - Mark Twain0 -

.... and received from Inkcredible the following day. Very impressive with written guarantee on the despatch note - they guarantee all their compatible cartridges to be as good as the genuine article or our money back, stating that we will only tell our friends if the cartridges are good value.His money is twice tainted: taint yours and taint mine - Mark Twain0
