Confused about availability of personal loans...advice needed.

I am 4 weeks away from going on maternity leave from work, and once my statuary maternity pay kicks in, in january, I am going to start finding it difficult to cover an existing car loan and credit card payments, aswell as the rent and utility bills.
I was considering getting a personal loan to cover both, and spread them over 4 years to make payments more managable, but have been completely confused by all the bank crisis storys in the news. Will there be loans available for me? Or have the banks cut back on lending completely? I`m so confused, and very worried as you can probably imagine....not a great time to loose a full time income.

Please help! Any advice greatly appreciated.

I really don'tt think you will find anyone on these boards who will think that what you are doing is a good idea.
Are you elligible for any benefits - eg housing benefit. Do you really need the car? Can you sell your current car and settle the loan and get a cheaper one?
