If you are an employee, the requirement to work from home needs to be specified in your contract. The standard deduction is £3pw.
If you are self employed you include in your accounts a proportion of the utility bills relating to the number of rooms in the house (excluding bathroom and kitchen). I might be out of date, but in my day, a proportion of rent and council tax was not allowed on the basis you would pay these whether or not you ran your business from home, but someone with more recent experience may be able to tell you the thinking on this has changed.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0 -
sorry i should have said, i am self employed. The reason we got a 2 bed and not a 1 bed flat was so i could have an office, does that not matter? I thought you I could claim 1/4 of my rent, but it so hard to get a clear answer from anywhere!0
