Car tax

Hi does anyone else have a Toyota Yaris? I was looking at another money advice board the other day, and a forum poster there was saying how she paid £35 road tax for her Yaris. I just retaxed mine last month and it was £120. Mine is a 1 litre petrol engine, 01 plate. I though the £35 band was for itsy bitsy cars that run on water or whatever!! What are other owners paying?

It's quite possible that the £35 tax is correct, and yours is also correct at £120. I'm assuming your car is pre March 2001. Before that date it is a flat rate tax based on engine size. After that, it is based on CO2 emissions. The link below gives the tax rates for engine size/CO2

Well, I'll have to check the logbook to see when it was first registered, but as it is a 51 not an 01 number, that is the second half of 2001 is it not? There is absolutely no difference in the engine they put in at either end of the year, so why such a huge difference in tax? It's not like it's only a tenner or something. The whole road tax system is crazy - my mum's car has a 1.4 engine, but apparently that is still classed as a small car.

I think you may find the other poster's Yaris was a diesel- they are only £35 for road tax
