Re-mortgage to Nationwide - Buildings Insurance

Just a quick question I am re-mortgaging from Alliance Leciester to Nationwide the solicitor has asked me to get my buildings insurance changed so that I put the interest of Nationwide Building Society to be added to the policy. Is this common?
I never had to do this when I was with Alliance Leicester.
Since Alliance Leicester would be the interested party up to the point of the re-mortgage which is going to happen on the 2nd January 2009, how would this work. I don't think Alliance and Leicester would be happy if I made Nationwide the interested party from now. The solicitor is asking for this insurance change from me now.

Nationwide will always ask to be noted on the policy. You can ask your insurance provider to write a letter stating that they will note Nationwide on the policy as from 2nd Jan to overcome the timer period.0
