What's going on with FTSE today? First it was down nearly 8% then it was up +1% and now it has gone down again nearly 1%
It has gone down nearly 1% even after the news of bank interest rate cuts. Do they know something which we don't know yet?0

Dow Jones has opened and is falling (strongly).
You can see it every day - the FTSE just mirrors the DOW in the afternoon once it opens.--
Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.0

FTSE -3.57% on the bbc ticker (15 minute delay)0

            FTSE down 3.57% now.
I'm not sure it mirrors DOW because yesterday FTSE was up and DOW was down.0

I'm not sure it mirrors DOW because yesterday FTSE was up and DOW was down.
It closes much earlier than the DOW so if the DOW subsequently reverses, the FTSE will jump/drop to match it the next morning.
Look at the FTSE from 1.30 to close on any given day, then look at DOW and NASDAQ during the same time period. Everything mirrors the DOW.
Or maybe ... they're all following the FTSE!--

Not many bulls around today - just lots of fear & panic:oTurn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you.0

Pobby, we are in the same situation as you. Endowment was supposed to pay off the mortgage in 18 months time now (retirement age) and give us "£40k plus, to do what you want with". We have £17k defecit. And now our pensions will have been shot to pieces PLUS the money from downsizing will be erm, downsized. So much for flogging ourselves to death working 7 days a week in our business.0
