SKY dept problem...

Hello all, i'm after some advice on the following...
Sorry if this is in the wrong section…
A friend of mine took over a local pub in London, and at the time I was out of work, so he asked me if I would manage the place for him.
I jumped at the chance and since he had a full time job I helped out by arranging for the sky to be setup and installed.
To cut a long story short, things didn’t work out and I only lasted a couple of weeks there, and then 6 months after that my friend didn’t renew the agreement with the brewery so he upped and left.
A few days ago I received a phone call from a debt recovery company saying that I owed them £3800+ , because a debt had been passed to them from sky.
I informed them that I was an employee there for a month and that there was no way I was going to pay the debt off.
The lady I spoke to wasn’t very helpful and all she advised was for me to get legal advice, and said that they’d keep phoning me.
I spoke briefly to sky who advised me to call back and speak to their credit control department (which I’ve yet to do)
I also tried calling my friend about this, but surprise surprise he’d changed his number, I eventually got hold of him and he told me the reason he changed his number was because he was being contacted all the time by companies asking him for money, and he told me to do the same and ignore them.
Any suggestions on how I should approach this would be greatly appreciated.

If the agreement was taken out in your name rather than the pubs or the owners, then you may need to deal with this. I advise speaking to sky about this rather than the DCA. Do not pay anything until you have a copy of the agreement with your signature on it stating that you are responsible for the debt. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91
Dad Gift 6k ¦ Savings & Inv Tst: £2,500
Loan 10k: £0 ¦ Dad 5.5k: £2,270 ¦ LTSB: £0 ¦ RBS: £0 ¦ Virgin £0 ¦ Egg £0
Total Owed: £2,270 (+6k) 11/08/20110 -
Thanks for the reply...
I've spoken to sky who were not very helpfull at all..
The agreement was taken out in my name, I didn't realise at the time that if things fell through i'd be liable.
All sky suggested was that I contact the DCA and speak to them about it because there was nothing they could do.
I've already spoken to the DCA who advised me to speak to sky.. ( i see a pattern coming here)
I've no idea what to do now...I cant afford to pay almost 4k for a dept thats not mine

How long ago was this?
I suppose you could write to the DCA to request a copy of the agreement, but it sounds as if sky have this if they say the agreement was made out in your name.
I'd actually give CAB a call to see if they can straighten out if you should be liable for a business debt when you were just an employee. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

I only worked there between Jan & Feb this year...
Thanks,
I'll give CAB a call to see where I stand.0
