Partially settled debts?

Hello
I arranged with a DCA to pay off my egg card as it had got into a bit of default, Collect Direct offered in first phone call to cancel out debt with an immediate payment of 2300 and stated that Egg would write off the rest of the debt about 900 quid - so thought hard, borrowed some interest free money from pal - been thinking about this for a while as egg was my highest cc.
Anyway - did that on Friday (danced a bit) HMMMMM - then a letter from Collect Direct saying 'We confirm the remaining balance shown above will be written off as agreed - we would advice however that any credit record information may show this account as partially settleed and you may want to check this with a Credit Reference agency such as........'
They offered 900 off for immediate payment or interest free payments til it was clear - have I been stupid by paying it off. This was the first call I had, I didnt bargain etc with them, they offered the reduction immediately - should I have taken the pay the long way option??
Any one any experience or what do you think?
