Martin - just a bit of support just seen your channel 4 interview, which I think was a bit harsh on you. You have never marketed yourself as the purveyor of all knowledge and I think people appreciate this set-up and your down-to-earth approach. Keep up the good work!

I couldn't agree more. I encourage all MoneySavers to tell Channel 4 how shabbily Jon Snow treated Martin.
Go to http://help.channel4.com and click "Contact Us". Or you can email C4 News Direct at news@channel4.com.
This is what I sent to them:
"Jon Snow is one of my favourite journalists, but his attack on Martin Lewis in his interview this evening was misguided and terribly unfair to Martin. Martin is one of the GOOD GUYS, and shame on Jon for not knowing that. Jon should apologise for his treatment of Martin."
Best wishes to all

I second this. I've been on the email distribution list since near the beginning but not on the forums as I can get my questions answered by other posters but I felt compelled to join the forum just so I could PM Martin after the C4 'interview' which was more like a witch hunt.
Martin and the team do their best to offer us the best deals for things such as bank interest rates, he also outlines the possible risks.. it is up to us to decide whether or not the gain out weighs the potential risk. People just see the top tables and advice and don't read the fine print themselves, Martin can't be blamed for that and anyone not looking after their own financial interests and weighing up pros and cons is a lemming.
Personally, I stuck with ICICI and never took out Icesave savings account due to the passport scheme. After my own research I wasn't happy with that aspect. I will continue to let my saving sit in ICICI as if everyone decides to pull out then of course the financial institutions - which are already struggling - will go belly up faster.
Thank you Martin for your advice and I hope that this does not put you off the work you do.0 -
Perhaps a board guide could move this thread to the Martin's Appearances board to ensure that he sees it.
I was so angry at the way Snow tried to browbeat Martin into admitting that he had misled people, when everyone who actually reads these forums knows that nothing could be further from the truth.
A dreadful display of misguided, misinformed accusations. Please take no notice Martin, you conducted yourself with dignity and I don't know how you didn't wallop him one  .I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Just joined the forum to say how angry I was with the apparant lack of research executed by the channel4 team, and have complained to them directly.
however I realise that in the world of incriminations and everybody for themselves that Mr Lewis is of course totally responsible for the misfortune of so many investors to whom mr snow referred.
furthermore I would like to add that mr lewis appears to have created a very loyal following and is not merely a reciter for an autoque. Maybe the usual channel4 team were all off drowning thier financial sorrows in charlotte street.0 -
Hi Duncan and welcome. Do stay around. Also don't miss Martin's show It Pays To Watch, on Channel 5 on Wednesday evenings.
He works exceptionally hard, and that's just the bits we "see" of him. As well as all his TV and radio appearances, and running this site, he presumably spends hours of his time privately doing research for his articles.
I hate to see him maligned, it simply is not fair on such a public spirited guy.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

I just wonder how many more people would have been in desperate stakes were it not for this web site and Martins advice .
I did not see the interview ,but I can't see how blame can be passed on to Martin or MSE .0 -
I agree that John Snow was very unprofessional about ML/MSE. I ignored it when he struggled to pronounce moneysavingexpert and claimed it was too long for the cue card. Then he went on to say that Martin is a "helpful expert" yet he gave a "diabolical advise" when he urged people to save with Icesave. If John/research team did their research properly they would have known that Martin has been very clear about both the good and bad points of choosing Icesave and at the end of the day, it is our money/our decision. Icesave was mentioned as one of the best ISA's not only in MSE but in national newspapers, moneysupermarket etc so why blame Martin? I myself is affected by Icesave's situation but not panicking and awaiting FSCS to contact me. Martin- I'm sure as I write this you (& team) are already making enquiries on our behalf! Please don't give up on us. Keep up the good work! Regards0

I wonder how many people hold the oposite view, but won't post because this IS MSE...?April Grocery Challenge £81/£1200

I dont think Martin is to blame here but at least he knows how financial advisers feel when things like this happen.
Perhaps a claims company will now start a template claims letter to download against martinI am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Dr Fluffy, I'm not sure it matters what they think, the fact is that each person is absolutely responsible for their financial decisions so to blame Martin is absolutely ludicrous. I have seen people on a couple of other forums on this site point the finger at Mr Lewis and it really disgusts me. We are so used to the media feeding us with information that a lot of people act on what they read without checking REALLY IMPORTANT stuff out, to do this with buying a CD for example is fine but doing it with upwards of 5 figure sums of cash is just nuts. Keep up the good work Martin!
PS my ethical conscience kicked in the other day and so I did a bit of background reading on ICICI, I didn't like what I read...using eunuchs to scare people in India to pay their debts sounds like something off Little Britain but apparently this is something they have done...this only matters, of course, if you believe what the media write, hmmmm?!0
