Rip Off Postage To Northern Ireland?

Is it more expensive to send to Northern Ireland/other islands than it is to send from Northern Ireland to the mainland? Reason I ask is I recently sold a desktop computer to a guy in England, Paid for postage to Parcelforce via the paypal online thingy, Postage was £10.95 for 48 hour service, However I went to buy a Satellite receiver from England again using Parcelforce 48 hour, Postage £10.95 + an £8 surcharge for postage to Northern Ireland. I have also sent items via Interlink, no surcharge to England however to receive in Northern Ireland there was a surcharge.

  • Grr - dont get me going on this one!!! We have an ebay shop and post things all over the world for the price we promise in our shop. Yet if we order from our wholesellers who are massive companies compared to little old me, we have to pay more for daring to live across a wee piddle of water. Its a disgrace! We have argued (in a very friendly way!!) with many suppliers over this one and have managed with several of them to make them see sense. We are not a tiny one horse island only accessible once every third tuesday- we are a big fat juicy green island with a regular ferry service and a gazillion flights a day - stop the nonsense now.
Ooh. Bet youre glad you asked!!!

Grr well this can hardly be fair, And if I was to say on me ebay listing "Deliveries to mainland carry a surcharge" no one would buy

nirelandguy, this is something you should put to your local politicain, who should address the issue properly at Stormont, forget the likes of talkshows like Nolan.

Our Politicians are useless, Nolan would get something done about it on a slow news day right enough, he always gives of about this sort of thing.

Aye, right enough, Stormont is a talking shop. Nolan would generate more interest from your invaluable information. But if nothing happens from Nolan go to a politician who will take the matter up in Westminster, where it needs to be discussed.
  • You are right, but it actually does cost the companies themselves more to bring items from the mainland to ni. This is due to more stuff coming in to ni than going out. Therefore companies are willing to take less money outbound from ni to mainland as their aircraft and trailers have more capacity.

It was explained to me that most mainland companies have postal contracts to places on the mainland that are collected and then delivered, so anything outside this has to be handled differently, more man hours so it costs more.

I even see that some companies wont send stuff our way at all

    Cheers

  • Could some of you please tell me where exactly this 'mainland' place is?

If your a business and get regular deliveries from the mainland the is a cheat you can do with Parcel Force. We where using them to deliver all our parcels it was a flat rate of £7.50 for the 48 hour service and £12.50 for 24 from what i can remember both upto 30kg. However if the business in the mainland allowes you to you can arrange through your online account for them to do a pickup from there place and deliver it to you for your same flat rate.

This was a few yeas ago but we did it a few times with no extra charges.
