neverdespairgirl, I'm sure you'll be OK as it is under £50K; you may have to wait a bit, though. Those holding over £50K may have problems. I was tempted some months ago by Icesave's rates, but went for a Lloyds ISA paying a bit less.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

The thing is, as the economists would say, is not to fixate on losses, sunk costs etc. but take a rationale view on what to do know.

It's very likely that inflation will increase (the figures will be fiddled of course) so even cash in NS&I is losing purchasing power. Right now, I'd be looking at a short term fixed interest savings in expectation of an emergency drop in interest rates, plus aquire assets that are safer bets against hight inflation, i.e. gold. If you have debt, expect it to be inflated away.

However, there will be an exchange rate crisis and interest rates will skyrocket - it may be the Tories who get to to this in their first austerity budget in a repeat of 1979 so don't be exposed with SVR mortgages (remember 15% when we fell out the ERM!).

For peeps with cash, this could be a great buying opportunity to pick up assets of all types from distressed sellers.

Well I think Im over the panicking and crying stage, that was last week, when I realised that the money weve lost over the last few months could have paid for the catering for our wedding. Good job it isnt booked :rotfl: I joked to OH that it might be an Iceland wedding with Katona's frozen platters, but then we read that Iceland & Katona are being bankrolled by our freinds at KE.

My index linked S&S isa  lost about 300 quid yesterday. I have about 8k in KE, which is staying there, im not sure it will be added too though!

Pah, its only money. It pi$$es me off though, that I could have been jollying this cash up the wall , Im killing for a lux holiday :D but with flight prices up as they are, we figured we'd wait until barrell price plummets.

I was wondering to self today whether spending it is the best thing to do "for the economy" and wonder if our freind Clown will start some half-cokked "dig for victory" style campaign where we are all encouraged to spend what we have to get the economy "moving" ( er it is moving mate)
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Well I am here just thinking about that e-mail that my mp will be receiving. Seeing as she is part of all this I do need her reassurance that 1. Gordo will not let house prices get out of control and 2. That he has put an end to boom and bust. Hopefully I will get a very interesting answer.

i have got headaches with the stress of finding homes for my money. i have spent the last week running around trying to sort it out and thinking of nothing else as i had far too much tied up in nationwide for it not to be silly and people would of been right to say your were warned... i still have to wait until jan when a large amount that i placed in a 12month bond matures and it wont be until then that i am safe as i am over the limit by 3 for a couple......fingers crossed...i also withdrew cash yesterday and put in in a freinds safe that is insured for 30k and yes i did get a signed receipt..
good luck to all in these worrying times....
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.
