With due respect, how can that POSSIBLY be correct? I haven't seen the flat or the EH report (is that a written report btw?), mind, but open windows are going to give far more ventilation than a couple of small vents.
Unless there is rising damp of some sort, all the condensation problems you have arise because of the amount of water that you personally are putting into the flat. That's simple science - the water must be coming from somewhere. You need to leave enough ventilation and have enough heating to get rid of the excess water. In the olden days, houses were draughty enough that it wasn't a problem, but with double glazing etc there just isn't enough air coming into the flat.
You need to be prepared to leave the windows open a small amount to air the property, and vents aren't going to help. It does seem to me that you are cutting your nose off to spite your face. Clearly your landlord does not want to do any work that appears unnecessary to him. You like the flat, so ....?
firstly to pretty much call me a liar is out of order. Secondly I'm happy to leave windows open slightly most of the time, but not wide open constantly with the heating on constantly. If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!0 -
            Foxxy,
I too am finding it hard to understand how EH can think that installing two vents above/near existing opening windows can help. Perhaps we are talking about different things?
In your chimney breast, is this the sort of thing that was installed? These are cheap & easy to fit, & indeed are necessary to allow air flow in disused chimney breasts.
Is this the same sort of thing that EH was suggesting for the other two sites? Or do you mean extractor fans, such as this? Or perhaps heat recovery fans like this?
As I've said before, it is not necessary to have the heating in your flat on full constantly, whilst simultaneously having the windows fully open. Perhaps both you and your LL have misunderstood the EH?
Trickle ventilation is all that is needed, & this can be achieved by use of window trickle vents, or by leaving windows securely locked open by about 1 cm (this can be retro-fitted if not standard). Moreover, the level of heating needs to be both low level & constant. Condensation problems are exacerbated extreme changes in internal vs external temperature - say putting the heating on full twice per day for an hour at a time.0 -

OK, well answer the one simple question, then - have EH given a written report? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

yes, they did. What the landlord is demanding (ie heating on constantly and windows wide open constantly) isn't what is in the report. The report states to continue opening windows daily on our part and on LLs part to install vents. If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!0 -
Have the EH been back in touch to see if it's been done?0

Does the report explain why the vents next to the windows are necessary? Indeed,No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
