Barclaycard/Mercers

I've missed my last few payments and got a letter today(dated 2nd October) saying that if I call Mercers and make a payment of £41(my debt is £665) they will credit my account with £15.

The letter itself is from Barclaycard, but the number to call is Mercer.

Does this mean my debt has been moved to a debt collection agency ?

I offered a full and final settlement to Barclaycard on Saturday, after the letter was posted out.Does this put me in a stronger position to get a cheap F+F settlement ??

Thanks for any help.

Mercers are the in house collections agency for Barclaycard. I found them ok to deal with, they didn't constantly phone and harrass like some. Not sure about the f&f, but someone will be along soon who knows more than me.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
  • I've written to Barclaycard three times. Once with my own reduced payment offers, again to return my cut up card and yet again to tell them I have a DMP with CCCS. I have spoken to about five different telephone advisers telling them the same story but they are still hassling me, saying my reduced payment is insufficient and make an immediate payment to bring my arrears up to date. I just hope CCCS get in touch with them soon and try and sort them out. Not that they'll be impressed with the DMP offer, I think it will be less than my original reduced offer.

Its not the policy of the card companies to accept offers . On a small debt like yours it is even more doubtful . They will be happy to add late charges and extra charges if you are over your limit . It is only when they sell a debt to a DCA that you may be able to offer a reduced settlement . But horrendous charges will have been added to the account . If you have offered a few hundred on a debt this size they will argue that you can afford to just pay that amount off the debt , then carry on paying rest off monthly.
