advice needed re "making an offer" (FIRE)

Hi there,

I would be very grateful for any advice regarding one of my many debts.
Originally it was a Citibank credit card, which was then passed to Cabot, now it is with a company called F.I.R.E.
The balance is £1157.24.

I had a letter come on Saturday, and it says in bold at the top
"make us a reasonable offer"
It then goes on to say that they will consider any sensible offer in full and final settlement of the account. This offer can be either a one off payment or a payment plan, providing contact is made by 17th October.

I am keen to clear my debts, but I am unsure as to what to do next - I would be looking at a payment plan, but I don't know what to suggest or even where to start.
I have contacted our local CAB,but they suggested I book an appointment with their financial advisor, for which I need an appointment.I would just like to respond to them as soon as I can,so I thought this would be the best place as this forum has helped me so many times before!

Any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance x

  • Hi there!

This is an old credit card debt, originally Citi card,I'd say roughly two and a half years.
I was on a payment plan as set up by the CAB,and was paying £1 per month,a token payment, which was paid by a standing order, which came out of a bank account which was my partners account, but I used it for DDs,wages etc....

When we split up a year ago,the bank account went, and I paid it monthly, but I am hopeless at remembering these things,so the debt got passed on.I haven't acknowledged the debt in writing, and haven't made a payment to thes FIRE people yet,I have had a few messages on the phone from them just asking to get in touch, and only about two letters that I know of...

I have my own bank account now, thats why I am keen to clear my debts and try and get straight for my little one.

    Thanks for replying!!
