Hi,
I am trying to find out he terms and conditions for volantary early retirement from the NHS. I have tried to access the information on the pensions agency website but for some reason I am unable to access the information. Can anyone give me the basic T&Cs for this.
Thanks,
Happi

I believe you can go at any time after 50...but a sliding scale of reduced benefits apply..you can write to ths NHS pension agency at Fleetwood to get an estimated value of current benefits. ian0

This guide will tell you what happens if you want to retire early. You can use the calculator on the website to work out your actual benefits and then the table in Page 20 to work out how much you will lose. Basically it works out around 5% for each year you retire early.

My NHS Booklet page 18 says:
'You can choose to take voluntary early retirement and get your benefits at or after age 50. We will work out your benefits in the normal way but they will be reduced to cover the extra cost of being in payment longer. The reduction will also apply to those members with special class retirement rights who retire before age 55.'
There are some conditions to this and you need to speak to the pensions officer or HR at work or write to Fleetwood.

I took early retirement 6 months before my 60th Birthday. At that time you could retire between 55 and 60, but not 60 to 65 for some strange reason. The rules might have changed now. Forget about the wages you would lose. I worked out how much pesion money I would pay in during my last five years and how much I got at the end. To honest what I gained from working those extra 5 years did not really amount to much.0
