Another Plea for Help/Support

I would appreciate any help or words of encouragement please.

My debts have been spiralling (probably around £32k now) and it feels like they are getting out of control. My family is not fully aware of the extent of things although they do know that I am struggling.

Things started going badly wrong when I lost my job and I thought I would get another one quickly so didn't curtail my spending. However, almost a year has gone by and I am no nearer finding work. I know I should give some things up but I don't see why I should have to suffer even more, and without some things (such as my football team) my life would barely be worth living.

Can anyone give me some advice on where to start? Do you think I should tell people the extent of my troubles?

I really don't know where to turn now and stumbled accross this forum. Please help.

  • Hi RosleaBhoy and welcome to MSE,

First thing, tell your family, a problem shared is a problem halved - believe me this IS TRUE!

Secondly - face up to the fact that you are unemployed and you HAVE to economise. If you do not, you could find yourself bankrupt, and believe me, you definately do not want that!!!!!!!

A good place to start would be your local job centre, the best way to solve your problems would be to get an income, any income is better than what you earn now, so go and get a job in McDonalds or Sainsbury, there are plenty of jobs out there at the moment, especially short term Christmas positions.

Money is the root of all evil, but also the cure.
There are many paths to tread to find true financial enlightenment, some of them are clear of obstacles, others have huge piles of doggie DooDoo in them in which one can easily tread. The journey is not made easier by the fact that the financial institutions blind fold us before we set out on our route.

Well said. Have to agree that you really need to tell your family, I found this extremely hard but it will seem like there is a weight off your shoulders once you do.

Where do you have income coming from at the moment? How do you pay to live currently?
  • Hi,

If you find it difficult to talk it through with the family first then try it on a stranger, someone like the citizens advice will listen and try to help without judging you (if that's one of your worries). Once you have shared it all with someone then the second time with the family will be easier.

    Good Luck

  • Thanks guys, I think I will tell them tonight. Wish me luck!

I am beginning to realise that my spending has got to stop and I think I will take any sort of job now.
  • Well done and good luck!

And remember - even though your situation may seem insurmountable, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

You have now taken the first step on your journey. :j

  • Hi just wanted to wish you all the best for when you tell your family. :T

I defo recommend sharing it with your family, I did last week and feel better for telling them, although it was v.v hard, I feel proud that I did it and they were glad that I told them and wish I had told them earlier.

Don't put it off, it will only get worse.

Anyway it is only money at the end of the day, they are your family and will love you no matter what.
