Me too! Sorry about that, but I was to lazy to search back and confirm ;)

Lloyds are also doing a good deal. I applied online about a week and a half ago and the account is already up and running. No cheque books, cards etc yet, but I'm sure they will follow in the post.

I think it's a very good deal as they pay you a £50 incentive to join.

As long as you pay £1k + in per month and login to online banking 3 times, they pay 4% interest on balances upto 5k. Over 5k, it's 0.1% .

I think they also pay about £40 each if you refer someone.

  • How old are you mate becuase your insurance seems incredibly high? Also have you made any claims before or having any points on your license!

Try the online insurance companies aswell. They are normally cheaper than phoning up!
  • Like Johanne - I am a youngester, well at 23 years ;)

My wages are not great at all - but look at my breakdown:

NET income per month after tax and NI : £913

    Outgoings:
    Rent - £150 on 50% of house
    Mortgage - £194
    Council Tax - £69
Water - £5.00 (Low as I overpaid last year and was in credit by £150)
    Gas + Electric - £32
Landline calls - £15 (put away in another account)
    Broadband - £15
    Mobile phone - £10
    Food - £80
    Pet insurance - £8.00
    Car Fuel - £112
    Other insurance £20

    Total £710

This gives me over £200 to spend on to cover credit card bills and any other things that crops up - since I have no savings I need to soon when the credit card is paid off in March (maybe in Feb when I finally get my overtime money). Insurance can be a right pain - thats why I went to the smallest first, I am currently running a 899cc Fiat Seicento (Before a 750cc Panda) and love it too bits - even though it cost me £180 last month for a major repair which i budget for - but at £18-20 per month on insurance (fully comp - paid yearly) it pays not to run a high spec cc engine for the first few years. I have swallowed the bitter pill on the car I know - but as long it gets me from A to B cheaply I am not worried.

Tryingmybest - you will have to sit down and write down where all of you spare cash is going (£505) and cut down - this is what I did and found it that I spending it all on junk that I really did not need. Then saved hard to fund my deposit for my home 2 years ago.

I work on insurance systems. Under 25's are (very) expensive to insure. Also, remember that you get up to 75% discount on your premiums for 5 years accident free driving. When you start out driving, you don’t get that discount and premiums for young people are very expensive these days.

As you say, in this case, points don’t make prizes as they can also affect the premium.

There are also other factors which can reduce premiums such as vehicle security (professionally fitted immobiliser, tracker, alarm) and where the car is parked at night (cheaper in a garage).

It also depends on the car. Although I’m 31, my insurance renewal arrived a couple of days ago. It’s £ 680 next year. That’s fully comprehensive and with maximum 75% 5 years no claims discount. That’s just because my car is an import. I have however decided to sell it next year, so I will save a fortune in insurance and petrol.

I'll get something cheaper to run ;) instead giving all my cash to Gordon Brown in fuel tax.

https://www.confused.com is a good starting point to look for cheap insurance
There are many paths to tread to find true financial enlightenment, some of them are clear of obstacles, others have huge piles of doggie DooDoo in them in which one can easily tread. The journey is not made easier by the fact that the financial institutions blind fold us before we set out on our route.

  • Ok guys heres my full plan.

1025 per month after tax and n.i is taken out.

    All p/m payments

    191.50- loan repayments on car.
133.00- insurance (trying best to find cheaper but no luck so far)
80.00- rent to father (which includes my food everything!)
80.00- petrol which I struggle to get down...
30.00- mobile. Thats cheap really so I can't complain there.
I was spending 200.00 p/m on things like dvd's, clothes, snacks, eating out... I've not spent anything this week except 3.50 on renting Mr and Mrs Smith, saving myself 46.50!

Costs p/m 714.50. I plan to cut of that 200.00 on silly things all together! bringing my costs down too 514.50.

That would be a massive 510.50 to save! I just cannot believe I've been so stupid with money!

I plan to put 350 pound away p/m In my new current account with Allience and Leicester account. I'm hoping to set it up tomorrow afternoon.
