Unaware of CCJ - Needs Sorting

Hiya people,

A bit of a long one, but basically, I have recently had to apply for a business bank account and have been turned down as there is a CCJ on my file which I was unaware of.

I have deduced that this CCJ is in relation to a dispute I raised with the tax credits people approx. 4 years ago.

In my first house, I was claiming WTC, and was receiving about £8 per week via giro.

I moved out of my house an moved in with my brother, informed Tax Credits of the move and I didnt receive another giro. I assumed it was because they had looked into the household and decided I was no onger entitled.

A little while later, I received a letter from them saying I owed them almost a grand (IIRC). I called them, spoke to someone there and explained that since I had moved house, I had no longer received any giros.

They said that even though they had received the notice of address change, the giros had still been sent to the old address and had been cashed (!!!).

We spoke a little longer and when i convinced her that I had no access to the house from the date I informed them that I had moved she said she would send out a dispute form so that I could put my case forward.

That was all I heard from them. Nothing received, no contact from them at all.

And then last week, I find out I have a CCJ for just over a grand.

Now, I want and need to sort this out ASAP, as I need the business account (thats another story).

Any ideas???

I think you can ask for the CCJ to be set aside if you were not aware of it going to court.
