Blessing in disguise IMHO. What do you want debt for? Other than a mortgage, just don't bother. You'll be much better off in the long run.

    Good luck!!

Sincere condolences darcy, but I can't help but agree with ixwood, a case of being grateful for small mercies to keep you from more debt. Be happy with the cap one card with it's limit for now, gradually you'll build up a good rating and be more financially secure, for now be happy that your lad has you to love him and vice versa! Many of us have been deprived of a parent, but it doesn't mean we're any less loved.

Your dreams will be fulfilled soon enough darcy, but there's no way your lad is ever going to think you're a 'weirdo', you love him too dearly for him to think that, that much shines out. Have a lovely Christmas together or with family members ...and let's hope we get the snow you long for, after all we had some on Christmas day about 3 years ago, so keep hoping.

Hi lorrs08 and a warm welcome.

Rather than come onto someone else's thread (where not so many people will see you) the best thing you can do with the post you've put on is to copy and paste it and start a new thread on the Debt-Free Wannabe board.

    All the best.

Really sorry to hear that you are having this problem. I don't know whether you are allowed to, but you could look at the up your income thread to see what extra things you could do to raise money - that don't conflict with your job obviously.

Also what about SAAFA do they have funds for holidays. The other thing you could do is start entering competitions to either get a trip to see Santa (i am sure there will be loads of these soon), or for things that if you won them ,you could sell them to increase funds?

    best of luck

Hi, so sorry to hear about your circumstances.

How about opening a Credit Union account. Put £10 a week away in there. After 10/12 weeks you can then take out a loan with them. You carry on paying your £10 a week and some goes to pay off the loan and the rest goes into your savings. I do a standing order every week and it's amazing how soon it adds up.

Hi, sorry to hear about your wife, but I don't think a loan is the answer. Your son is still only 4 and has loads of years to go and have snow at christmas and see santa. I think it might be better to wait a couple of years and you save up for the trip, as he will be older to remember it when he is older and, having saved for it, I think will make it even more magical.

    Good luck!

I agree with Turnaroundsue. We took my DS and DD (then aged 5 and 8) to Spain for our first trip abroad. We had gone in this country and it had always been freezing and wet, so we felt that they should have a 'proper' holiday.

Neither of them remember a thing about it. I would wait until he's older and will actually appreciate not only you taking him away, but the time you will spend together doing it. Plus as Sue said, it will give you the time to save for it. If you can't save the money in a few years, how would you pay back the debt each month?
