ebay selling to get some funds

hi everyone,

just on here for a rant!! i havnt sold anything on ebay for ages, just been on to list some things and i see it is now a condition that we have to accept paypal as payment, we can no longer refuse to accept it!! im appauled really as it seems to me just another ebay way of making more money. and the money from each sale is held in the paypal account for 21 days or until the buyer leaves positive feedback, you cant withdraw it. amazing just how much interest they will make from that then!!! needless to say i havnt listed anything i dont want to be told what payment method i have to accept, not that i have much against paypal but the fees can be high and i think its just a liberty.
just wondered what everyone else thinks.

yeah i was rather shocked when i got this message when trying to list, maybe its very new not sure. i too have always offered paypal but find it wrong now it has to be offered. apparently it has to be offered on anything except cars, boats ect. and it did say to prevent bad sales and comlaints the funds from the transaction will be held for 21 days or until pos feedback recieved, to minimise and reduce claims ect!!

I have to admit that as a seller I didn't notice the new terms, but as a buyer I quite like them after reading about them here.

I've always offered paypal as a seller, because I think it attracts more buyers, even though I have to take a financial hit with the paypal fees.

As a buyer, I've always been very aware that my only real course of action against a rogue seller is to try and do a chargeback on paypal - which is completely useless if they've emptied their paypal account. If they now have to wait that can only be to my advantage.

I suppose it also doesn't really affect me because I rarely actually withdraw my paypal funds - I just use them to buy new stuff. I love the fact that last week I turned two pairs of shoes (that cripple me when I wear them) into 20 embossing tapes for my dymo labeller :D.

  • Ive withdrawn funds ok and still not had my feedback so unsure what the holding payment must be. Could it be on over a certain amount or something maybe?

From memory I think the holding funds is only on certain items.

For example things which may be sold as fakes. I think if you were selling ipods, designer handbags then they wait for the feedback as unfortunately so many sellers on there are trying to pass off fakes as the real things and ebay/paypal are inundated with claims.

I have sold some bits this weekend, general odds and sods, clothes etc. People paid via paypal and I have withdrawn the money no problem.
