Flares in a hurry!!

Hello,

I'm having a bit of a crisis, can anyone help please?

I am hosting a 70s party next saturday and I want some authentic seventies clothes (primarily big flares or bell bottoms). I can hardly turn up to my own theme party without a costume can i!!!

I really don't want to wear the cheesy fancy dress stuff you find all over the place and I don't want to cut up my own trousers and put patches in them.

Can anyone tell me where I can get some clothes please. I'm happy to do mail order but bear in mind it's only a week away. I live in Hereford and I've tried all the charity shops. Cheap would be good because it's unlikely I'll wear them again. I'm running out of ideas

Would appreciate any help. I'll even buy yours off you!!!! Size 18, 32 leg if you've got any :D

Thanks
Terri x

    I've been Money Tipped!
Get an old pair of jeans or trousers from a charity shop and undo the outside seam from the bottom up to the knee. Get some bright offcut fabric or old silky scarf and sew in a flared panel - job done on the trousers.

Wear with a Tshirt - you can always get a value one from Tesco and stick some glitter on it.

Then get one of those cheepo nylon affro wigs (or give yourself big hair with a bit of hairspray) and make some cardboard Elton John glasses and stick some glitter on them as well.

Oh, and get some sparkly hair clips or scrunchies and put them on your shoe laces for added effect.

    Enjoy the party.

Ah thanks for the help and suggestions there but really wanted to stay away from the whole home-made and cheesy thing. Would like to get some authentic or authentic-looking clothes.

Home made? what do you think we used to do in the 70's!! I remember many people with the coloured inserts, back then there was less money to spend on fashion (if you can call it that) especially for teenagers.
But I did have some purple embroidered loons, (really really big flares); wish I could get in to them now, although would look a plank if I wore them.
The alternative is a maxi dress - lots of these Kaftans around at the mo, some in sales, float around like a hippy? (plenty of these left in the provinces in the 70's too) .
  • Yep, definitely made our own flares in the '70s (though I would never admit to remembering them!). Dead easy to do, they look great if you have fitted tops to the jeans then massive flares from the knee down in the brightest, most garish colour you can manage.

Don't forget the sparkly overdone makeup and the massive platforms that you can't walk in (can't believe I used to go to discos like this and survived!.

Also agree with the hippy idea - used to do that too, all floaty and jangly!
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

eBay !! There's a whole section for 70's clothes, I'm sure you could find something suitable. Most sellers would be willing to post asap so long as you email first before bidding. Have fun!!
