It's very easy to knock people trying to make predictions, but surely we are all trying to see into the future? This forum isn't intended to discuss the history of house prices from 1920 to present day for example? I'm not so interested in what has happened, as to what might happen.Even I can predict that there will be one or two upturns and down turns sometime in the future.0 -

What has my post got to do with 1920 to the present day? Yes it is easy to knock some peoples predictions.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
I'm trying to decide between two goats or two sheep as our introduction 'worst case scenario' meat producers. Goats would certainly more practical...milk producers too, and I prefer them, but that I prefer them has also made me feel sheep might be a better choice. The sharp end of becoming more self sufficient is not nice.0

It's even worse for the poor goats, and you'll find it easier once you are really hungry. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

LOL, we have other people's sheep in the orchard for a hoggit or two most years, have done igt for a half calf but its a step up driving them to their end oneself though. We keep chickens and 'deal with' extra males. i'm not going to get poultry for meat at this stage though, I see it in the future. In stead I'm going to try a new breed of layer instead, I'm wanting green/blue eggs. But we'll keep our current girls and replace or rooster with the same breed, then any offsprine of a well considered mix will be pot suitable. In the future I want guinea fowl for meat.:o0 -

Do you know how many people will be doing that as the recession really takes hold? The forward thinking will not be turning to religion though, they will be starting new ones.;)
'I'm going to invent a religion that's going to make me a fortune. I'm tired of writing for a penny a word.' - L Ron Hubbard (supposedly).0 -

Wonder when that quote dates to - I dabble in some ghost-writing and the typical amount I am paid is 40-60 pounds per 1000 words, which works out to 4-6p per word I write. So, if a penny a word was dated even towards the end of his writing career (early 1980s), that must have been quite some amount. I am presuming that the penny a word does not include ongoing royalties for what he wrote, which I obviously don't get. It's always the grass that suffers, irrespective of whether the elephants are fighting or making love !!!0 -

It must date back sometime to the then new-golden age of science fiction. Isaac Asimov has a collection of short-story books, with each having a little tale of what he was up to in the real world as each story was being written. They are nearly as good as the stories themselves, or better.
He didn't like Ron Hubbard for his... precursor (m... something) to Scientology, or what direction it took his publisher in, the guy he held in high standing after he'd given him a guided tour of the publishing house when he'd knocked on the door as a [STRIKE]13[/STRIKE]18-year-old* .
Correction: As an 18-year old* in 1938, when his father suggested he submit his first manuscript at sci-fi short-story to Astounding Science Fiction .0
