a caller on jeremy vine/martin's money slot said she bought oats by the sack in her health shop. we eat porridge for breakfast all year round and would like to buy in bulk - have approached our local health food shop to ask and were told they'd knock off ten percent if we bought in bulk, do i'd still be paying well over a pound per kg. not cheap. does anyone know of any suppliers? also want to do the same for lentils- the red ones, best price of £3.00 per kg at health store. any ideas? thanks:beer:

Mornflake Oats = £1.02 for 2kg in ASDA/Tesco
Tescos/ASDAs Own = 58p for 1kg
Sainsburies Own = 60p for 1kg
I have 3kg of porridge in my cupboard....FOR MYSELF
Your health shop is a rip off
That price for red lentils is also a joke, I have a halal shop down the road which does £3.50 for 2kg for Lentils ...and that's expensive in my eyes.Buy for value not cost.
Feb Grocery = £55.87 / 800 -
Have you tried this site to compare prices.. its a great guide but not always 100% accurate for your local store. I think there is a small price differences between regions.
http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/JAN GC- £155.77 out of £200FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £200

Yep, Tescos value cheapest and tastes fine. Buy loads when they have it in as supplies seem hit and miss.0

Depends where you are in the country. Up North we have a string of greengrocers that also do lots of grocery things in bulk, like all the dried pulses, herbs and spices and even ground almonds in huge bags. I don't usually buy the big bags of ground spices though because they lose their flavour a bit with storage. We also have a good Chinese supermarket that's useful for giant bags of rice (you can see all the young Chinese students buying them - bless) and they also sell woks very cheaply. It has to be cheaper than health food shops, which always seem to have quite a mark-up on things.
Good luck with your search. Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever

Those lentils are very expensive from the health food shop - just had a look on mysupermarket.com and the prices are as follows:
Asda - Asda organics dried red split lentils 500g 80p
Tesco - Natco red lentils 2kg £3.69, Tesco red split lentils 500g 84p, Tesco wholefoods red split lentils 1kg £1.52 (special offer)
Sainsburys - Crazy Jack organic red split lentals 500g £1.49, Sainsburys red lentals 500g 84p, Sainsburys red lentals 1kg £1.38
Not sure if these are regional prices, so it might be wise to check https://www.mysupermarket.co.uk yourself using your postcode. These were the results when I used my postcode, your local store might have a bigger range, but looking at the above Sainsburys are cheapest for me, Sainsburys red lentils 1kg £1.38.
Im sure on another thread someone mentioned that Morrisions were pretty cheap for lentils, but I don't know what the charge. Anyway, now I know that I can get them for £1.38 a kg from Sainsburys, I will have a look in an asian greengracer when im next down south to see how the price compares!! I seem to be getting through a lot of these at the moment!!
