Best place to buy XBOX360 on the high street on launch day

Hi folks,

I've given up trying to source a "fully loaded" xbox360 online and now I am contemplating joining the mad hunt on the high street tomorrow morning in Chester city centre.

Can people please recommend from which store I stand the highest probability of obtaining one. I am not fussed on saving a few quid here or there as I just wanna get hold of one of these things!

I am thinking at the moment of possibly trying woolies or WHSmith first unless Virgin or HMV are anygood???

Thanks in advance

Julian

By the way anyone know if Woolworths or Virgin did any pre-orders? Just I will avoid any stores that did so.

On a more constructive note, i've been ringing round a few stores here in belfast and most have some allocation available of the CORE system and are selling them off as 'packs' either with games or the HD or both all on a first come first served basis. You may want to ring around and see who is doing a pack that suits you, rather than turn up at GAME only to find their pack is £699 (genuinely it IS - comes with EIGHT games and a HD) when you could have maybe bought one down the road with a couple of games.

I think most stores are opening early. Also its worth remembering that there will be more shipments before christmas, ie what shops have tomorrow isn't all they are getting....

  • As I understand it, your best bet may be to try somewhere like Tesco or Asda, where no pre-orders have been taken. There's a separate thread on this forum about Xbox360's at Asda, together with a list of stock levels for various stores. Be warned though that demand seems to have reached fever pitch over the last couple of days, so you may have to camp out somewhere and wait.

Game are saying they have no systems for sale in store (apart from the packages referred to by Paul above). Comet and Currys are also saying they are unlikely to have any.

Good luck, Julian (and anyone else on the hunt tonight)!

  • phoned Tesco and Asda tonight and tesco(Bathgate) have allocated all theirs already to the 1st 4 people that arrived and started Q'ing!!!!!
Asda(Livingston) have 14 and the Q is already full there too!!!!

asda open at 6 in the morning and tesco ones go on sale at modnight btw

    Hi folks,
I got up early today and walked into the city centre (CHESTER) for around half eight this morning. I tried the following stores in my recon: WHSmith, Woolies, Dixons and Virgin Mega - all sold to pre-orders. Then as it was next to dixons I saw GAME opening up and I was the first one in and I managed to get a CORE system for 210quid plus PGR3 for 45quid. So the 700quid packages rumoured on these forums were not true!!! I doubt they will have any left now.
While I was hunting for a 20GBHDD for the 360 2 lads came up and offered me 350 quid for the box I was carrying!!!
I must admit I was tempted but I was uncomfortable doing a cash deal on the street - reliability of notes etc!

On a more positive note the chaps in Virgin Mega. said that they will get another shipment on the 9th so I assume its worth getting up early and trying again next Friday. (having said that the store only received 7 systems!).

So its true that the early bird does get the worm!!!

    Ta

    Julian

The above info. applies really to Chester only though I'm sure the situation is similar around the UK.
