Walkers Crisps "Deception" at Tesco

A large display at my local Tesco extra store in Broadstairs has various special flavours of Walkers crisps in six packs. Under some flavours is a shelf ticket offering 4 packs for £3.15, or under some flavours is a shelf ticket offering 2 packs for £1.85. BEWARE, you cannot "mix" these offers. I protested to customer services who were adamant that the prices were clear and they were running two different offers alongside each other, even though the offers were randomly mixed on the display. I chose 1 Marmite (4 for £3.15) and 1 Lamb curry (2 for £1.85) and received no discount for buying 2 packs ! I shall be protesting to both Tesco and Walkers for this "deception" This sounds petty but I hate being conned!
P.S. the crisps were lovely
stay lucky!
Steve.

you were not conned ! i thought everyone would know that the offers have to be the same price ie £1-85/£3-15 how on earth could you expect them to have an offer across all price ranges. you mis read/misunderstood the offer simple as that !!

    Taken them to court !!!!!!!!!!!
  • Sorry ChrissyG, but I think you mis-read/misunderstood my post.
The offending crisps were all the same unit price, but it appeared that they were offering 2 packs for a reduced price, and 4 packs at a bigger reduction. Hope this clarifies

Were the Marmite ones shown as being in the 2 for £1.85 offer though? If they weren't in the offer then you wouldn't get the discount, simple as.

If they (and the Lamb flavour) were both shown as in the '2for' offer, then the store should have given you Double the Difference for the overcharge (as per their policy on the blue board behind the CS desk).

If it were me - and only if BOTH flavours were in the '2for' offer - I would keep the receipt and the outer packs, and next time you are in that Tesco go to CS desk to ask why you didn't get the offer (don't mention the previous visit to CS and obviously make sure it's not the same staff member!).

You might want to do this even if you are not sure about what the SELS said, as you were misled by the promotion. But how much are we talking about anyway, a few pence?

If the SA checks the offers on display then you can still get the DTD if both flavours are advertised on the shelf edge as in that specific promotion. A really nice SA would give DTD just because a promo is confusing - but not all would.

BTW don't go in all guns blazing, don't 'protest' or talk about being 'conned'. Just act as a shopper with a genuine query and a nice SA may agree with you that the promotion is unclear.

From what I understand of the original post, they were ALL Walkers 6-packs that have the same normal price? So people might well assume they can either take up the "2 for £1.85" OR "4 for £3.15" offer and pick from any of the flavours.

However, surely the SELs for the two different offers should have specified *exactly* which flavours were included? If not, and they simply said "Walkers Crisps 6-packs", then the OP is totally right to be annoyed.

I have been 'overcharged' at Tesco's recently like this, because I have been in a hurry and glanced at the promotions on my way round and not taken the time to read them properly!

The offers as stated are correct. The 'regular' flavours are in a 4 for promotion but there have been some 'specials' of which marmite, lamb, and i think a chicken tikka in the 2 for promotion. This started at the same time as the do us a flavour on pack promotion.
It is misleading when you find the flavours all mixed as opposed to being displayed separately, as the OP has found.
Both offers have been going for a while now.

So if Marmite and Lamb flavour were both in the '2 for £1.85' offer then the OP is due a double the difference refund as I stated above.

No need to protest to Tesco or Walkers, just go to the CS desk again, politely & calmly explain the overcharge & hope for a more intelligent, customer-friendly response this time (take the receipt and the 2 outer packets to show the flavours you bought). You can mix flavours if they are BOTH specified as being in the same offer.

    Hi,

funnily enough, this happened to me on Monday.

    I got 4 packs for £3.15 - only 1 of them wasnt!

Even the Customer Services lady admitted it wasnt very clear.
She was happy to sort it out for me tho :)

What WAS odd was that all the packs are the same basic price - £1.15

So why some are on 1 offer, and some are on another, is a bit odd.

    Cheers,
    Karen
