Helping the Environment?

Hi,
I would like to kick start an initiative through work that everyone could get involved with. We have about 300 staff in my unit and would like to try and get everyone involved. I have thought about the usual things such as turning off lights & photocopiers etc but would like to suggest something more original,
Any ideas MSE'ers?,
Thanks
Lisa

turn down the thermostat and encourage eveyone to wear a jumper.... u could have a strange jumper of the week competition...
encorage staff to recycle their lunch waste ... this help them feel positive about the environment... u will need to provide bins for this and sonetrusted staff could take this home and place it in thier own waste recycling bins, so you would not face added waste charges.
printrs ink cartridges evaporate if the printer is on all day, so only switch on when needed.
make sure the windows are clean and blind and curtain free to save on electric lighting.
look at your cleaning products.. can you find ones cheaper that are more environmental??? white vinegar for example
instead of company meals out... how about using thecar park as a barbeque area if your insurance and h&S will allow... its more fun and less money.
car shareing.... my hubbys company does this extreamly well, and its great to know you are saving co2 you could have a co2 saver of the year reward!! well done for thinking this way.1. i'm bi polar.:rotfl:2. carer for two autistic sons.:A 3. have a wonderful but challenging teenage daughter. 4. have a husband that is insatiable. 5. trying to do an open degree.0 -
You can normally set the printers to go to standby quicker. Have a look through the menu for powersave.
Also have a look at the Carbon Trust website: -
