Rusty stains in cupboard

Hi

My kitchen is quite damp and in the food cupboard some of the tins have left rusty stains on the bottom of the cupboard.

Does anyone know how I can get rid of them. I have tried the usual to no avail.

Thanks

When I had this problem the only thing that worked was one of those *eraser* things. Like the flash eraser, but from the poundshop;) I find these work in lots of situations like this.

  • I agree they are really good - I have used stardrops with great success too
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Cor, thanks for asking this question - I have the same problem under my sink from a can of Jeys fluid and have never thought to ask for suggestions :o.

Tomorrow I'm going to get one of those magic sponge things and have a go.

    Thanks for the tips.

You can prevent the problem, by spraying the bottom edge of the tin with hair lacquer, or running a bit of paint, nail polish, varnish etc, around the bottom.
I always wipe a bit of wood varnish round the bottom of my shaving foam can, so it doesn't mark the bath shelf.

  • Well...... I tried everything and in the end the only thing that touched the stains was white spirit:eek:

TBH they were quite bad as my kitchen is quite damp but they have gone now and I have tried the trick with the hairspray to make sure that it doesn't happen again.
