claiming back tax

Dear friends of the forum i wonder if anyone can help me. i have been in the motor vehicle trade for over 15 years recently i heard that i could claim back the tax i have paid when purchasing tools for my job.

Q 1. can i claim back the tax on all the tools i have puchased over the past 15 years?

Q 2. how do i go about claiming back, someone mentioned a p87 form ?

any assistance with the above would be greatly recieved. so lets keep fighting the system and put a big grin on martins face.

thank you irosey.

    1. No, you can only go back 6 years and you would probably be asked for receipts. You can only claim the cost of repalcement items in excess of the fixed rate deduction for motor mechanics (or engineers - whatever the list at www.hmrc.gov.uk calls them).
    2. You write a letter to your tax office - P87 not essential.
