Hi - i have already posted this on the loans board but thought i would post on here as its where i feel most comfortable and hoping someone can give me some advice!
Today i rang up the company who my loan is with to see what the balance is they told me it was £0 and thanked me for paying the remaining balance. The thing is i havent paid it off and there should be quite a high amount left in the thousands.
I asked them to send me a confirmation that it has been paid and also a statement (so i can try and work out why and how it has been paid).
What i am wondering really though is that if i do get this statement/confirmation can they contact me in the future if it has all been an error?
I have never known this to happen before so dont know where i stand here!
Hope this makes some sense to some people
Any help would be much appreciated

Hiya
Best thing to do is see what the statement brings. Maybe they were looking at the wrong account.
Even if it is your account, not sure on the legalities of this. Suspect that if there is an error (on their part) then you would still be expected to pay up. Would it be similar to those cases you see ocasionally in the paper where someone gets x-amount (usually a few thousand) put into their bank account by mistake, but blows a lot of it before the bank realises and tries to claim it all back ???
MDebts (incl Mortgage) at LBM (24/09/08) £102849  Now £0. DFD 1st July 20190 -
I did think maybe they were looking at the wrong account, so i rang back a further three times as i was in that much of a shock! But i am sure they must have been looking at the right one as they asked for my customer reference number and security details such as date of birth, address, password etc... They then told me the full amount of £4750 had been paid (and i know that is how much should be left).
I just dont know where i stand now.
Can i ask them (once i have received the statement) to close the account and remove my details from the file?Biggest Loser Weight Loss: 13 / 20 lb0 -
if there's a system error and they looked at the correct account that had been credited in error then this will unravel in time...
do yourself a favour and at least keep the money available if and when you need it....not sure how long they could go back with any retrospective action but if you stick the money in a safe place (!) it will either be there when you need it or a tidy sum in a few years time.
keep note of all your actions and who you've spoken to etc ( but you knew that anyway!)For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070 -

Thank you this is what i was thinking - i will definatly make sure i have some money available incase they do start asking for repayments to be paid. I will just be interested now to see what the statement says when it arrives
Out of interest do you know if i can request for my details to be removed if they do continue to say that my account balance is at £0?

can I assume you mean "bumping"?

they would still be allowed to keep their records for at least their own audit purposes (unfortunately for you) - this error will come out at some point when someone says they've paid and the system says they haven't and the other person proves the moeny has gone from their account....
if they miss it for 6 years you may stand a chance...For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070 -
