Hi Alfietinker
While you are cross and fired up ring them and ask them over the phone. I have done it a few times and although it is not what you want to hear it helps for the next application.

Hi Me again just read the rest of the posts my friend applied for a police job and the date came and went for not successful about 2 months later she got a call to go and have an interview I dont want to give you false hope but ring them you never know what they might tell you good Luck take a deep breath and call them.
