Donating a second hand TV in/near Edinburgh.

Options
After trying to sell my Sony TV on gumtree for months and no takers I thought of giving it to a charity instead. I contacted Sick Kids and they cannot take it due to hospital hygiene regulations and have emailed the Scottish childrens hospice association but they never replied. :(

Does anyone else know a worthy cause in Edinburgh who might be interested? Perhaps a childrens home, old age home, community centre or something like that?

I don't drive so it would need to be collected (From Bruntsfield) and it's not a modern lcd or plasma but an old stlye 'chunky' (CRT) 21" TV - so quite bulky and heavy but I am happy to help load it into an estate car/minibus/van or whatever..... It's about 7 years old, but still works perfectly and being a Sony the sound and picture quality are great...

I could just give it away on gumtree or freecycle (although I really could use the £50 I was originally asking for it, but hey) but would prefer it to go to a charity or other 'worthy' cause if you know what I mean..

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

You're obivously asking too much for it, tv's lose their value fast

Stick it back on gumtree/local paper at £25ono and I'm sure it will be gone quickly

Doubt many charities would take it as it'd need testing by an electrician

The Bethany Christian Trust take electrical items, they have an electrician who can check them out. They are then either sold, or used to furnish their supported living accommodation. They will even pick up larger items.

A great charity, I would heartily recommend!
    Free is my favourite price!

Would agree with Bethany. They've had a washing machine and old fridge freezer from me and do all the lifting and carrying.
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!
  • Excellent idea, thanks. I thought they only took furniture so good to hear that they will take elecrticals too. Would they take a (working, but old) stereo radio/cd player too? Will contact them on Monday anyway.
