Advice on buying Tamiflu?

My GP has suggested that I buy a course of Tamiflu privately as a precaution against a flu outbrake (given my poor health), can anyone suggest/recommend the best way to do this.
I note there are many internet companies which offer a free consultation but do not show prices (as they are not allowed untill after consultation).

I'd like to use a reputable company but don't want to spend too much as I'm on a tight budget.

Aren't you entitled to the normal annual flu jab?
In any case thats your first line of defense.
When you or someone in your family begins to experience flu symptoms, you have 48 hours to take action. Trust TAMIFLU, the number-one prescribed antiviral flu medicine*:
    • For flu treatment: When taken within two days of experiencing symptoms, TAMIFLU works by helping to stop the flu virus from spreading inside the body
    • For flu prevention: When you have been exposed to someone with the flu, taking TAMIFLU can help keep the virus from making you sick
TAMIFLU is not a substitute for the flu shot; vaccination is the first line of defense for flu protection.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

    Hi

I agree about the flu vaccination but this is a site where you can buy a generic version i.e it is like ibuprofen is exactly the same as Nurofen but much cheaper.

I would've thought that if your GP has recommended you take Tamiflu he/she would've advised as to where you can get hold of it?

I think if you Google it you should be able to find it online - though it may be best to get it on prescription from your GP....
  • Your GP should be able to give you a private prescription of this drug, and then you can simply order and pay for it at any pharmacy, possibly he/she just forgot to give you it, otherwise it's really irresponsible to leave you looking on the internet for it (get a new GP if this is the case).

Don't buy medications online, most are made in dodgy factories in India and there is no regulation on what goes in them.

Thanks for all your comments guys.
going for my flu jab next week.
what I am looking for is a back up in case of a pandemic, in which case supplies of medication would dry up very quickly. it is possible that the flu jab would not protect against such an occcurance as they just pick the top six most likely strains each year.
I imagine that my gp is not in a position to prescribe the drug as a prophilactic herself as it not an option on the nhs (she did tell me she would help in any way if I had a problem obtaining it).

I can't believe that there are no reputable retailers on the web - although there is always a risk of getting fake medicine which is why I was hoping some one would be able to suggest a cost effective, reputable source.

All repuable and genuine pharmacies should have a green cross and a reg number from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, e.g, top right hand corner of this one I use:

I imagine all reputable and genuine pharmacies will also ask for a prescription.

OP, do let us know if you get a supply here without a script. I'd be interested in getting it myself (although my NHS GP will write a private script).

The other option is to go to a private walk-in GP service - but this will cost around £50 for the consultation to obtain the prescription.
  • Is tamiflu is really effective to cure swine flu?

I'm a great vaccine sceptic, perhaps wrongly.

But personally will avoid the swine flu vaccination programme at all costs. I'm glad i'm too old to be included in the HPV vaccination programme too tbh from what I have gathered about some of the side effects (some devastating).

In Germany recently there was a scandal because goverment officials and military personnel are being offered a different vaccine than the wider population.

My advice - do a a bit of research before being vaccinated with ANYTHING.
