I have a mental illness and know exactly where your coming from, I was only able to deal with my debts when I got better (and Im getting better every day (YAY for me!!!), its a slow process, but from my experience not having the debt meant it was one less thing I had to deal with on my road to recovery.
I explained this on my forms, and the circumstances around it. If you have a supporting letter from your GP. When you get to a point in your explanation just put "See attached letter" and staple it to the back of the forms. That should be ok. I would get copies of the letter first though so you have enough for 3 copies and one to keep. And all you can do is tell the truth about your debt and mental illness and see what happens.
If you explain you have set up a basic bank account they will say they have no interest in it, and its the bank that freeze the account but if you have gone to coop or barclays for the account it should be ok."Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"

Hi
The above advice from Shadowdragon is good- just attach your letter.
Try not to worry too much, the vast majority of Judges/OR's staff are fine.
I really doubt your spending would be seen as the same as gambling/drug addiction. If its any help, I did very similar things to you (holidays on credit cards, etc), and I don't have mental health issues/depression. I had to explain what I'd spent the money on but I was never made to feel bad about it, and my OR was actually really nice. To be honest- your description of how and when you spent the money sounds pretty clear and open to me.
If you are concerned how you may hold up/conduct youirself in the interview- maybe write a short note when you send your signed "agreement" back to the OR/or tell the examiner when they call you initially.
They will deal with all kinds of people from all walks of life every day, so your situation should be nothing that cannot be allowed for.
All the best0 -
both replies above have given you invaluable advice if you need to see the OR ask someone to attend with you and tell the OR you will be doing that. You can also take someone to the court as well for support.
I wish you well and hope it all goes fine for you, take care sententia, and I hope when this is over like shadow things improve greatly for you.

All I can add is just be honest and answer and questions directly. If you can't remember something just say so. They will be used to this and also used to people with incomplete records. They can get all the information they need anyway so don't worry about that. You can get through this and just think as Shadow said above, it will be one less thing to worry about.

Hi,
I agree with those above, you have nothing to fear at all about how you have ended up needing the protection of bankruptcy legislation. The insolvency service are used to lack of information, and assisting those with mental ilness. I think it is seriously arguable whether you had the legal 'capacity' to enter in to one or more of the contracts you entered in to, and if things were not at this late stage then a debt adviser may take a different route, but not now.
Best of luck with your BR, im sure it will be the relatively painless fresh start you deserve.
