Few DMP questions before we set it up

Good Morning to you all.

After posting my SOA and looking at CCCS debt remedy we have decided that it looks like a DMP will be the right move for my husband and I.

Got all my figures together and going to ring CCCS today, will I have to make appt?

Anyway I was wondering though Ive noticed in previous threads that people have paid token payments and by postal order. Just wonder is there a reason for this could i not pay through internet banking for next payments while setting up DMP or debit card?

Also this week and following weeks we cant afford the payments to loans and credit cards, so rather than borrow from family as we have been doing we are just going to pay what we can. For example last night I paid two of them £5.00 each. Is this ok to do?

And lastly, (honest) i have a small overdraft on my bank so didnt want to bother adding that in the dmp so i could then keep my bank account, but my husband as one with the same bank (diifferent account and branch) could they still take from mine am i best opening a new one as well?

Thanks for reading and taking the time to help me. I'm sorry for all the questions but its hard finding anywhere else with all the answers except here :)

If I remeber correctly when I set up my DMP I was sent a pack straight after my 1st phone call. have a look on their web site it will probably tell you the process.when I set up my dmp with CCCS I sent token payments and the CCCS letter before my actual dmp payments started. it didnt stop my creditors phoning but at least I could tell them I was with CCCS and put the phone down. dont be mis led by companies telling you they dont recognise cccs or by threatening court etc. once you have made a couple of dmp payments it all seems to go quiet, I'm nearly 2 yrs in. I think you should get another bank account and definitety delclare your overdraft as if/when CCCS find out about it they will no longer deal with you and you will be in a worse situation. I know it's tempting to hang on to a means of getting more credit "just in case" BUT you WIll use it. best get a co op cashminder account with electron card but no cheque book and no overdraft you can only spend what you have and it's been a godsend to me because I know several times I would have used the od because it was tough living on a budget. Now Im used to not having any credit and I manage very well. good luck, it's the best thing I ever did

    Hello,

I've been on a DMP for 4 year with CCCS. I think you do usually have to make an appointment to speak to an advisor, but give them a ring & they will tell you what to do. They are usually quite busy so don't give up.

The token payments you made are fine I did this for 6months before i had enough disposalable income to start a DMP, it's your way of showing that you are still serious about paying your debts but it's all you can afford at the moment. If you get any letters or phone calls tell them you are having problems & you are dealing with CCCS. If CCCS give you a referance number then tell the creditor this it helps.

CCCS usually advise you to set up a new basic bank account where you don't owe any money to so best to ask this.

    All the best

  • Well i finally rang CCCS (it took me ages to get the courage!!) and I can't speak to anyone til 14th October! I feel really deflated now. I'd got all geared up thinking I could speak to someone like this weekend. So made the appointment and they gave me a client ref number.
Mentioned cancelling my direct debits etc and banks etc and then making token payments. If do that though,Im just worried now cos if the creditors ring me i can only offer them a ref number i cant say we have a DMP sorted etc.. And dunno what they'll do or say! I dont know what im trying to say here. I just feel all over the place!
    sorry for the pointless ramble.

  • And what happens if we do these token payments then we speak to the CCCS and they wont let us do a DMP. We have about 850 left over to pay towards stuff but im just worried that cos hes self employed they might not let us do it.

Is anyone else self employed on a DMP.

Have you filled in the debt remedy form for the CCCS on-line? I did mine that way, they sent through forms and it was all sorted and on the go within a month. It might be worth doing it that way.

  • Yeah I tried but it wont let me because my partner is self employed its got to be over the phone. Hes actually a sub contractor to same company and as been for several yrs so bit likebeing employed but CCCS said its still got to down the self employed route.

The reason you havent got an appoinment as quickly as you'd like is because there are 1000s of us out here!!! and it's getting worse but please dont despair. now you have a CCCS number whenevr you gat a call just politely tell them you are with CCCS give your number and put the phone down. I had up 20 calls a day at one stage but once I realised their threats were just that I got quite confident at dealing with them. you will alos get letters some which sound scary if you're worried abou tthem give CCCS a call and they will advise you what to do....eventually all mine went in the bin! You have taken the first importatnt step and it's very frustrating having to wait. the start of it all is a bit bumpy but trust me once your dmp is up and running you will feel like a new woman.
  • Thanks HHH for that. Feel abit better, guess it is just bit scary and worrying!!
