One more common flaw is your post.
If you have got the sun handy you could melt one at 3550C. Or 300,000 atmospheres of presure you could crush one (but only if you did not apply it slowly)
We can not re create a diamond, try to cut a diamond with a diamante ring.:rotfl:
We can not create the presure or the heat to turn coal in to daimonds!
I like your effort but at least base it on fact.
I think you should have taken notice that science lesson as it was more than likely ruby's. (aluminium oxide based I think)

congrats, you know how to use google...

    So, effectively if I was sitting on a field of Potatoes and the man next to me had a field of Lambs and the man next to him had gold and we was wondering how to feed our families;

I can tell you now that I would tell the man with the gold to !!!!!! off and take some lamb meat.

Is there a danger with gold that someone might find a great big massive heap of the stuff underground somewhere which devalues it?

It would have to be a pretty massive find ... and it still has to be dug out of the ground and refined which is a very expensive process and could take years to get up and running (new mine).

The bottom line is, if there is any better form of representing/preserving wealth it has yet to be discovered.

You have shown your ignorance of chemistry as well as Google :rotfl:

Diamond may melt at 3550C and it would probably have to be in a vacuum to do that, but it would have burned at only 800C in the presence of oxygen.

How much pressure it takes to crush diamond is irrelevant as diamond can be cleaved with very little effort. Look it up.

Synthetic diamonds can now be made from the ashes of dead relatives.

I got a A at Chemistry 'O' Level, what did you get ?:rotfl:

1)Is that why I said you would need the sun (is space not a vacuum), Can burn in the presents of oxygen at over 800C

    2) It is to destroy it, A cleaved diamond is still a diamond, it does not turn to dust or stop being a diamond

    3) Yes (well same chemical compound) but they are not as strong, brass looks like gold and is metal whats your point any jewler would spot the difference!

    4) AA the sciences, A chemistry also. Non of this is stuff you would do though!

The point is they are generaly not easy to accidentaly destroy!

I would laugh but that would make you look a bit more stupid.;)

If you are going to buy diamonds, the first thing you need is someone trustworthy to evaluate them, plus someone else equally trustworthy to live alongside you. DW worked in a goldsmiths, and it was not uncommon for ladies to bring in their 'valuable' diamond whatsit for an insurance valuation, only to find that it was not quite the item they'd purchased, or the diamond they'd been told was so 'special' when they purchased it on holiday.

OK, but that's bartering, which has obvious downsides (Would you be able to buy a pint, a nights accommodation or a house with your potatoes or lamb?). To advance, society needs a currency and gold is as good as it gets.

It's a reliable way of representing/storing wealth so then people can trade anything for anything.

And where did you get your field for growing potatoes? Did you buy it with something?
