    Thanks for pointing it out.
It's quite an old model though - it uses Smartmedia which is now virtually obsolete and only produces 4MP by interpolation (2.1MP would be a better description).
So, not such a great bargain, but not a bad little camera for a beginner!
  • I just ordered this then decided to do a search and found it wasnt a 4mp as advertised but as mentioned a 2.1mp. Now to cancel it.

Yes it is an old model now. Interpolation is about a smuch use as digital zoom is. Bloody pointless, you can like digital zoom enlarge photos via software, its just another manufacters plow to deceive people.

It's also 2.1 mp not 4mp ie 4.0 million via SuperCCD' interpolation

    Interpolation defintion

In computer graphics, it is the creation of new values that lie between known values. For example, when objects are rasterized into two-dimensional images from their corner points (vertices), all the pixels between those points are filled in by an interpolation algorithm, which determines their color and other attributes (see graphics pipeline).

Another example is when a video image in a low resolution is upscaled to display on a monitor with a higher resolution, the missing lines are created by interpolation. In a digital camera, the optical zoom is based on the physical lenses, but the digital zoom is accomplished by algorithms (see interpolated resolution).

Don't be too blinded by all the megapixels...

In it's time... around 2001 this was a quality camera... I had the 4700 zoom which was also 2.1 mpixel interpolated and it was excellent...at the time I paid £250 at the end of 2000.

Sure you can get 5 mpixel camera's for this money but they will probably not have a decent optical zoom. Also smartmedia is still widely available and is very cheap to buy.

As was mentioned before....this is a good beginners camera....

Personally if it was me... I would pay perhaps £30-£40 and get a more up to date entry level model... but I don't think the £70 for this one is unreasonable.

I have had this camera for a couple of years and I think it's great. Don'y worry about the pixels. This camera produces good enough resoulution for perfect 8x10 prints.
