Hi
I need some nice new spice jars to organise my herbs and spices.... I don't want a spice rack just some nice little glass jars that I can label myself.
Any ideas?

I've just cleaned the labels off the ones the spices came in and painted a bit with chalkboard paint so I can label them - far cheaper than buying new jars and they look great in my country kitchen :T0

Ask on freecycle for peoples' old spice jars - you'd be amazed how many people don't buy the refill packs, and just recycle theirs. Then soak off the labels and make your own - easyI don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right0

Start looking out for things that come in the right size jars - pesto, horseradish sauce, mustard, sardine paste etc. Anything not too big works for a spice jar. I make labels by printing name of contents in a nice font, cut out and neatly sellotape over with invisible sellotape. That way you can still wipe the spice jar clean when needed with a damp cloth without damaging the label. Alternatively, or if you don't have enough recycled jars, there is always IKEA who do empty spice jars cheaply."Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0

I got some really nice ones in Julian Graves - they were 50p each but on 3 for 2. They are small and hexagonal with shiny chrome lids. I've seen them on Market Kitchen and on Rachel's food on the shelves.Jane

I use beakers, most supermarkets sell them around 50p, just print some fancy labels off and stick them onClick here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.

Tesco were selling some small "Klipfit" tubs the other day at £2.50 for 4. I bought loads and labelled them up for herbs and spices.
They're good because you can actually get a teaspoon into the tub to measure out for recipes - trying to get half a teaspoon of some spice when the spoon won't go into those little spice jars was really annoying!
What's also brill about them is that they stack so it saves space in the cupboard. Looks quite professional if I do say so myself - and I do!!!NIL ILLEGITIMUS CARBORUNDUM!Nov Grocery Challenge: £0.00 / £150.00
