What do I do If I cant pay Credit cards Help pleeese

Hi everyone,

Im in the sh?t bigtime.

my boyfriend came to live with me 2nd Sept. Before that I was a single parent to 3 kids eldest being disabled. Claiming Income support, mortgage interest relief, council tax benefit, get DLA for daughter and carers allowence. At that point I was just managing to keep my head above water.

I have 4 credit cards, 2 with bits on and 2 biggies.

Since boyfriend moved in and I told Dss they stopped my claim straight away leaving us with three weeks before boyfriend got paid.

Had to borrow money off dad to pay for food and petrol for us and for him to get to work.

He got paid on 26th September £1037.00.

We now have £20 in the bank after paying bills, CC and bits of food.

I really dont know what we are going to do for the rest of the month. I have cut up my CC as there is no point in spending what I cant pay back.

I posted a claim in for child tax credit on Tuesday but until that comes through we have £20.00

What can I do if my CC card bills come in before he gets paid again. What will they do if I ring them and say I cant pay. I doubt whether the tax credits will be sorted before then. I dont want to lose my house and Im unsure whether they would wait for money in this credit crunch.

More importantly do Asda do tick:eek:

Any ideas???

Surely you should still be getting DLA and carer's allowance?

Yes I thought DLA was not means tested?, you need to appeal about this, when your boyfriend moved in though surely he would have had money from his previous wage from 26th August? also if he was paying rent before and now he has moved in with you there must be some spare there?

Can you post up a full SOA (combined) so we can take a look?

Well done for cutting cards up . You have faced up to problem and I presume boy friend is fully supportive . First thing is to both sit down and work out your monthly expenses . You are correct the tax credits will take ages . So have you anything you can sell for some cash ? shame weather is bad, could have done a car boot at weekend . What date is your payments due ? One thing you must not do is pay these unsecured debts before the really important things like electric rates etc . I would not say anything to them yet . Workout if you will be okay when he is paid again . Have you always been okay with the mortgage ? What date is it due ? If you have not been in arrears you can ask that the payment date is changed . Example
pay day 24th of month , mortgage payment 7th of month , ask that it is changed to the 26th . So in effect you get a months mortgage money to help out . Missing one month on card payment is not end of the world , but watchout for a late payment charge and over limit charge .

Sorry. DLA and carers going in bank but it just covers the mortgage and utilities. Thats why I had a seperate account for it.

I didnt want to start falling behind with that and having gas and electricity threats.

I just posted a SOA and the flippin computer crashed. God it took me ages as well. Oh well will have to start again but will do it in a bit.
Does anyone know if the credit card companys will hold the bills for a month or until Tax credits come through. Im not refusing to pay them, its just that until they do my income is nothing except DLA and Carers and CB all which pay the utilities and mortgage, until boyfriend gets payed again on the 26th.
Until they do come through were going to be in the same situ again and I really dont want to fall behind with anything.
    Will start my SOA again.

Perhaps you could ring and ask them if they would be willing to give you some leeway, or maybe contact the mortgage company and see if you are entitled to a payment holiday, that could be one months mortgage payment you can use to sort yourselves out until this is settled. If they wont perhaps they will cnahge the mortgage to interest only from the next payment for a short period (a few months) and this might buy you some time until the tax creds come in. If you are struggling i would let the non essential debts wait and concentrate on monrtgage/council tax / utilities / food. You can play catch up with the others.

  • Pay all essential bills, unsecured debt can wait a month, you will get letters asking for double, just pay what you can at end of month and catch up next month when you have a better idea of where you are with money. I don't think anything too horrific will happen to you for mssing one months payment on a few cc's!
I would ring them if it is bothering you, but tbh by the time they have realised you missed a payment and wrote to you, you may be able to ring and make your payment.
It just gives you a little breathing space in between. You have too eat and stay warm...they are priorities over everything else.
Hope all goes well for you, btw my tax credits claim was really fast. So hopefully you won't be waiting too long!
