Hi all. I'm new to this site today. I've just been laughing at my profile 'ambitious, hardworking family man. Skint!' It's no laughing matter really, is it? I emailed 'it pays too watch' today with my problem after watching Martin's pogramme last night for the first time. I owe a lot of money, mainly as a result of a divorce. I have a new partner who has been so supportive and I want to repay her support by trying to get out of this mess asap. Terms like IVA and Bankruptcy scare the living daylights out of me. I just wish they'd had that effect when I was making unwise financial decisions. I have two credit cards and two loans. I struggle to pay the minimum off one card and barely pay anything at all off the other, hence the reason why they've sent me a Default Notice. My two loans get paid without fail every month. I work hard and hate seeing my account down to nothing two or three days after pay day. I bet this is a familiar situation to many of you. I'm hopin gto get some good advice. So far, I've completed the survey for Consumer Credit Counselling Services. Has anyone got any good experiences of them? What are the implications? I wouldn't say my situation has driven me to suicide, but it's caused a few sleepless nights. I would do anything to get out of this situation. Anyway, just thought I'd introduce myself. Cheers.

Hiya and welcome, don't worry you are soooooo not alone, we have all had a few sleepless nights on here but you are in the right place and although I haven't had to go down the CCCS route myself, I've heard nothing but praise for them really
Can you post up your SOA when you get chance ( you will have to do this for CCCS anyway) and we can have a look and see where you may be able to cut back to free up some cash?

Welcome Mymonkeys!
Trust me, you are in the right place. We're a friendly bunch
I have a DMP with the CCCS and have absolutely no complaints about them whatsoever. Contacting them was seriously the most sensible thing I have ever done in my life. I hope they come up with a solution for you.
Obviously if you decide to embark on a debt remedy with them then there are repercussions. Your credit rating will be zero and you won't obtain credit. You will be living off your earnings each month. However, this is NOT a bad thing. It scared the pants off me having to cut up my cards but it really does make you think about WHAT you are spending.
Why not post a full SOA and we will see if we can help?

Hi Mymonkeys, and welcome to a site thats been an absolute godsend to me and many others.
As BlondHeadOn said carry on laughing its better than crying!
CCCS are brilliant both online and on the phone you've done the right thing by approaching them.
Now just sit tight and wait for loads of good advice.DMP Support Thread Member 238

CCCS saved my life! As others have pointed out having a DMp, IVa or BR will trash your credit rating and certainaly with a dmp you start out getting a lot of nasty calls and e mails but they tail off quickly once your creditors know you are with CCCS. I am paying off quite a lot each month but I no longer live on credit so eventually ( 6 yrs) I will be debt free. I still have enough left over each month to live a reasonable life. good luck and get some sleep!0

Same here nothing but priase for CCCS. I have been where you are and am out the other side now, but it is possible and if you are determined to get this sorted then you will feel great once you start taking control of your finances again. You will have a crap credit rating for a few years but so what ~ credit is the thing that brought these problems in the first place. Do try to post your SOA and folks on here will offer suggestions to help you in the interim. Good luck and well done on dealing with your debts! You can stand there and agonize........

CCCS seem to be the best option as they do not make a charge to manage your Debt Management Programme (DMP)
It is best to start with posting up a Statement of Affairs (SOA) - use the link in post 3. As stated, you will have to do one anyway for CCCS & if you post it up, members will suggest ways to save.
Welcome!SOA = Statement of Affairs (to find a SOA Calculator, google 'make sense of cards' & click on calculators tab > Statement of Affairs)0 -
Thanks very much for taking the time to read my intro earlier today. My partner always says that I'm not the only one who's been in this position. Cheers. I'll post my SOA asap.0
